Waiting List & RAC — What to expect
Waiting list tickets that are not confirmed before chart preparation are refunded in full automatically. If your PNR is partially confirmed, only the confirmed passengers are charged and the unconfirmed passengers receive a full refund.
If you booked a Tatkal waiting ticket that did not confirm, you will receive a refund for the unconfirmed passengers. Confirmed Tatkal bookings are non-refundable.
TDR & Post-Chart Cancellations
For cancellations after chart preparation or special cases (missed journey, train diversion, long delay), file a TDR on IRCTC within the stipulated time. TDR claims take longer and require proof — keep your PNR, e-ticket and screenshots handy.
Practical Examples
- 3A ticket fare ₹1,500 cancelled >48h → Cancellation fee ₹180 → Refund ₹1,320.
- Sleeper fare ₹600 cancelled 24 hours before → 25% deduction ₹150 (min flat ₹120 applies) → Refund ₹450.
- Confirmed Tatkal ticket cancelled → No refund.
- Waiting ticket not confirmed → Full refund to original payment method.
